The financial landscape is shifting. Consumers, particularly younger demographics, expect more than just transactional banking – they desire integrated financial wellness, proactive guidance, and seamless experiences. This project aimed to conceptualise and begin prototyping a "Super Banking App" that caters to this evolving need, challenging the status quo of traditional banking interfaces and experience.

Understanding the Landscape:
Research & Insights

User Research: Synthesis of existing market reports and behavioural data highlighted a desire for: personalised financial advice, effortless budgeting tools, and integrated travel/lifestyle benefits.

Competitive Audit: I benchmarked leading fintech apps (Revolut, Monzo, N26) and traditional players (Bank of America, Chase) focusing on UX, feature sets, and innovation.

Future Trends: Exploration of banking trends – open banking, AI-powered insights, embedded finance – informed our core design principles. The focus was on creating a "financial command centre" rather than a simple banking app.

Viability: Identifying a clear path to monetisation through integrated services and premium features. (Playful and fun)

The Experience:
Wireframing & AI integration

I developed detailed wireframes for eight key screens, prioritising user flows and core functionality. Key screens included:

  • Dashboard: Financial overview & personalised insights.

  • Transactions: Spending tracking & categorisation.

  • Investment: Portfolio management & AI-driven recommendations.

  • AI Chat (“FinAssist”): 24/7 intelligent support.

  • Forecasting (“FutureView”): Proactive financial planning tools.

  • Goals: A clear pathway to saving for the future. Focusing on travel.

Leveraging Figma, I translated the wireframes into visually representative initial screens for a Proof-of-Concept. The focus was on establishing a clean, modern aesthetic, emphasising data visualisation and user clarity.

  • Dashboard: Clean display of account balances, interactive spending chart, personalised insight cards.

  • AI Chat: Intuitive chat interface with predefined quick actions and a sample conversation demonstrating AI capabilities.

  • Forecasting: Visual representation of spending projections and goal-setting tools.

Key Learnings & Next Steps:

This initial phase confirmed the validity of the “Super Banking App” concept and highlighted the importance of:

  • Proactive AI Integration: AI-powered assistance is crucial for driving user engagement and providing personalised value.

  • Data Visualisation: Clear and intuitive data visualisation is essential for empowering users to make informed financial decisions with ease..

  • Seamless Integration: Integrating banking services with travel, investment, and lifestyle benefits enhances user convenience and loyalty. Travel seemed to be a big driver.

Accessibility/Security/Time Starved

There was a strong user desire for convenient and secure banking, leading us to explore voice biometrics as a frictionless authentication method. Combining advancements in voice recognition technology with the need for enhanced security, we developed a system allowing users to initiate transactions via voice print even before fully opening the app, streamlining access and reducing fraud risk.
